ANIMALS- Cats

Cat Town Oakland - Donate
Many cats struggle in an animal shelter setting, sensitive to new sounds, smells, and the trauma of losing a home that was familiar. Even the most affectionate, devoted pet may hide or be fearful in a shelter cage. With partner organizations more likely to accept young, outgoing cats into their programs, municipal shelters often have nowhere to turn for help with undersocialized kittens, shy, stressed, or older cats. Cat Town answers this need by targeting the cats least likely to be adopted from Oakland's municipal shelter. Through our foster-based program, Cat Town allows sensitive cats to blossom and find great permanent homes. Cat Town is also devoted to helping feral cats leave the shelter and find safe outdoor homes. Cat Town is an independent, non-profit organization that operates through a partnership with Oakland Animal Services, resulting in increased adoption and reduced euthanasia of at-risk cats and greater awareness about the needs of these vulnerable animals

San Francisco Parks Alliance - Donate
San Francisco’ parks and green open spaces are deserving of a world-class, independent nonprofit organization which holds the vision for our parks, aligns community needs and civic engagement with accountable City government management, and supports parks improvement through philanthropic investments. The ongoing lack of adequate public funding and the corresponding decline in park conditions and amenities highlighted the need for a nonprofit organization which could facilitate the collaboration between residents and the City to improve parks and raise the visibility of parks and recreation as a vital public service. Increasingly, the City is also in need of a strong, independent partner to engage in on-going planning and policy development related to public lands and to bring best practices and solutions into the public dialogue on parkland.Within this context, the two leading parks-serving organizations, Neighborhood Parks Council and San Francisco Parks Trust, joined forces in October 2011 to form the new San Francisco Parks Alliance. This new organization represents combined experience in philanthropy, advocacy, park and open space policy, and community mobilizing.

We are people who may have been brought up in other faith traditions or none at all.
We are people of different ages and styles of life.
We are people of different races, including multi-racial families.
Our families are different shapes and sizes and include singles, significant others, and those who have lost partners or spouses.
Some of us have children, some of us don’t, some of us are children.
We respect other faith traditions, and some of our families are interfaith.
We are all over the map politically (but we are located in Berkeley!).
We are free to wrestle theologically.
We take care of each other.
We like to think and exchange ideas and opinions.
We value creativity and use the arts in many ways in the life of the church
